Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes

  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth or water

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 810 small corn or flour tortillas

  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish

  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, diced avocado, diced red onion, shredded cheese, salsa

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

  • Push the turkey to one side of the skillet and add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Combine with the turkey.

  • Sprinkle in cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and dried oregano. Stir well to coat the turkey evenly with spices.

  • Add black beans, diced tomatoes, and chicken broth. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat.

  • Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10–12 minutes until slightly thickened.

  • Stir in lime juice and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or extra cayenne if desired.

  • Warm tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat or wrap in foil and heat in the oven for 5–7 minutes.

  • Spoon filling into tortillas and top with cilantro and optional toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust spice levels to taste by reducing or increasing cayenne pepper.

  • Leftover filling can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for 2 months.

  • Warm tortillas just before serving to keep them soft.

  • Customize toppings with shredded lettuce, diced avocado, cheese, or salsa for extra flavor.
