Ingredients
For the Filling:
-
6 ripe but firm pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
-
2 tablespoons lemon juice
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
-
2 tablespoons cornstarch
For the Crumble Topping:
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
¾ cup rolled oats
-
½ cup brown sugar, packed
-
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
-
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Peel, core, and slice the pears into even ½-inch pieces. Place them in a large bowl and drizzle with lemon juice.
-
In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cornstarch. Sprinkle over the pears and toss gently to coat evenly.
-
In a medium bowl, mix flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and work into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in vanilla extract.
-
Pour the spiced pear filling into the prepared baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the pears.
-
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are bubbling. Check doneness by gently pressing the topping; it should feel firm and crisp.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve warm alone, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Notes
-
Use firm pears like Bosc or Anjou for the best texture.
-
For a nutty variation, fold in chopped walnuts or pecans into the crumble topping.
-
The crumble topping can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
-
Adjust spices to taste; adding a pinch of ginger or cardamom adds a unique twist.
-
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen before baking for up to 2 months.
