Description

This Southern-style twist on a classic favorite brings bold, creamy flavor to the table. Tender chicken and shell pasta are smothered in a rich garlic-Parmesan sauce with a hint of Southern spice, creating a comforting and indulgent meal perfect for weeknights or special family dinners. The combination of cheeses and seasonings gives this dish a luscious, creamy texture while the lightly spiced chicken adds depth and warmth. It’s easy to make, packed with flavor, and guaranteed to become a household favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz shell pasta

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into strips

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (optional for heat)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ½ cup chicken broth

  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 tsp dried parsley (or fresh if preferred)

Instructions

  • Cook the shell pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  • In a medium bowl, season chicken strips with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and Cajun seasoning if using. Toss to coat evenly.

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken in a single layer and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 6–7 minutes. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  • Pour in heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring to combine. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.

  • Stir in Parmesan and cheddar cheeses until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

  • Add cooked pasta and chicken back into the skillet. Toss gently to coat everything evenly with the sauce.

  • Garnish with parsley and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try roasting the garlic before adding it to the sauce.

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best texture and taste.

  • For a spicier version, increase the Cajun seasoning or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.

  • This dish pairs well with a simple side salad, roasted vegetables, or garlic bread.

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently and add a splash of cream or broth if needed.
