Description

A warm, comforting dessert perfect for cozy evenings or festive holiday gatherings. The sweet, juicy pears paired with tart cranberries create a vibrant filling, topped with a golden, buttery oat crumble that’s irresistible. Simple to prepare yet impressive to serve, this crisp brings a touch of home-baked charm to any table.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 4 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced

  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen cranberries

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.

  • In a large bowl, combine sliced pears, cranberries, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Toss gently until evenly coated.

  • Transfer the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

  • In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in melted butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. Fold in nuts if using.

  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit, leaving it loose for a crisp texture.

  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling.

  • Let the crisp cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Use firm pears like Bosc or Anjou for best texture.

  • Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your fruit.

  • Prepare ahead by storing filling and topping separately in the refrigerator until ready to bake.

  • For added crunch, fold nuts into the topping.

  • Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce for a more indulgent dessert.
