A tender, slow-cooked BBQ chicken dish bursting with zesty flavor and perfect for effortless meals.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.8 kg (4 lb) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts

  • 480 ml (2 cups) BBQ sauce

  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire-style sauce

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional)


Instructions

  • Whisk all sauce ingredients together in a bowl.

  • Place chicken in the crockpot.

  • Pour sauce over chicken and coat evenly.

  • Cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours.

  • Shred chicken and return it to the sauce.

  • Add cornstarch slurry if desired and cook 15–20 minutes more.

  • Serve warm.

Notes

This recipe stores well and reheats beautifully. Adjust the sauce sweetness or tanginess by increasing or decreasing the brown sugar or lemon juice to suit your taste.
