Ingredients
-
1 loaf of French bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes
-
8 large eggs
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
-
1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Spread the cubed bread evenly in the prepared dish.
-
In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the chopped pecans until fragrant, about 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Set aside to cool.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
-
Pour half of the caramel sauce over the bread cubes, then sprinkle half of the toasted pecans evenly on top. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, pressing gently to ensure the custard soaks into all the pieces. Drizzle the remaining caramel and sprinkle the remaining pecans on top.
-
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
-
Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and bake, covered, for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
-
Let the casserole cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Optionally, drizzle additional caramel sauce over each portion for extra indulgence.
Notes
-
Brioche or French bread works best for a tender, custardy texture.
-
Toast the pecans just before assembling to enhance flavor and crunch.
-
For best results, refrigerate the assembled casserole for several hours or overnight.
-
Leftovers can be refrigerated for 3–4 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
-
Customize with fruit, chocolate chips, or nut alternatives as desired.
