Ingredients

1 pound (450 g) ground beef

1 cup (200 g) long-grain white rice, uncooked

2 cups (480 ml) beef broth

1 cup (240 ml) milk

1 small onion, diced (about 1 cup / 150 g)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon dried thyme

1 cup (240 g) shredded cheddar cheese

½ cup (120 g) shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion until soft, then add garlic.

Add ground beef, cook until browned, and season.

Spread beef mixture in the baking dish and top with uncooked rice.

Whisk broth and milk together and pour over the rice.

Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

Remove foil, add cheese, and bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes.

Rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen before baking. Add vegetables or adjust seasonings to suit your taste.
