Description

This hearty and comforting dish features tender cheese tortellini tossed with savory Italian sausage in a rich tomato cream sauce. Finished with melted mozzarella, it’s a quick yet indulgent dinner that works perfectly for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 15 oz Alfredo sauce

  • 15 oz Marinara sauce

  • 1 package (9–12 oz) cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Optional garnish: fresh basil or parsley

Instructions

  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the tortellini according to package directions until tender. Drain and set aside.

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion for 3–4 minutes until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  • Reduce heat to medium. Stir in Alfredo sauce, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and heated through.

  • Return the sausage to the skillet, then add the tortellini. Toss gently to coat everything in the sauce.

  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top. Cover and let the cheese melt for 2–3 minutes.

  • Garnish with basil or parsley and serve hot with garlic bread or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Fresh tortellini cooks faster, but frozen works just as well.

  • Drain excess sausage fat if needed to avoid a greasy sauce.

  • Add vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini for extra nutrition.

  • For a spicy version, use hot Italian sausage or add red pepper flakes.

  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
