Description

Capture the essence of autumn with this rich and creamy Chocolate Pumpkin Mousse. Perfect for cozy evenings, festive gatherings, or anytime you crave a dessert that balances chocolate indulgence with the warm spices of pumpkin. This mousse is light, airy, and beautifully spiced, making it an impressive yet approachable treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (fresh or canned)

  • 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped or chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, divided

  • Optional: chocolate shavings or pumpkin seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

  • In a medium bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Stir until smooth and well blended.

  • In a separate large bowl, whip 1 cup of the heavy cream until soft peaks form.

  • Gently fold the melted chocolate into the pumpkin mixture, being careful not to overmix.

  • Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate-pumpkin mixture in two additions using a spatula and gentle folding motion.

  • Divide the mousse evenly into serving glasses or bowls. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

  • Just before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or roasted pumpkin seeds if desired.

  • Serve chilled and enjoy.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use homemade pumpkin puree from roasted sugar pumpkins.

  • Choose high-quality dark chocolate with at least 60% cocoa content.

  • This mousse can be prepared a day in advance; store in the refrigerator in airtight containers and add garnishes just before serving.

  • For a lighter mousse, fold in an additional 1/2 cup of whipped cream. For a richer mousse, add a small amount of cream directly to the melted chocolate before combining with pumpkin.

  • Pair with gingersnap cookies, shortbread, or layer with crumbled graham crackers for a festive parfait.
