Description

A comforting, hearty baked dish layered with savory chili, crispy tater tots, and melted cheese—perfect for weeknight dinners and casual gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) crushed tomatoes

  • 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

  • 2 tbsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 bag (32 oz / 900 g) frozen tater tots

  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ¼ cup sliced green onions (optional)


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, then stir in garlic.

  • Add crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 8–10 minutes.

  • Spread chili evenly in a greased 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the cheese.

  • Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.

  • Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven, add remaining cheese, and bake 10 minutes more until bubbly.

  • Rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end.

  • Let the casserole rest briefly to set before serving.

  • Adjust seasonings to suit your taste preferences.
