1 (30 oz) bag frozen shredded hash browns, thawed

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (divided)

1 cup sour cream

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup

1 small onion, finely chopped

½ cup melted butter

½ cup milk

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp salt (or to taste)

½ tsp black pepper

1 cup crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

2 tbsp melted butter (for topping, optional)
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, whisk together sour cream, cream of chicken (or mushroom) soup, melted butter, milk, onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

Add thawed hash browns and 1½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until evenly coated.

Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheese over the top.
