Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

1 ½ lb (680 g) potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup (240 ml) milk

1 cup (240 ml) beef broth

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
½ teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.

Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion until soft, add garlic, then brown the ground beef.

Season the beef, stir in flour, then add beef broth and milk. Simmer until slightly thickened.

Layer half the potatoes in the dish, top with half the beef mixture and half the cheese.

Repeat layers and finish with cheese on top.

Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15–20 minutes until golden and tender.

Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
