Ingredients
-
1 pound lean ground beef
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 medium yellow onion, diced
-
1 green bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
-
1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
1 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional substitute: soy sauce)
-
1 cup shredded provolone, mozzarella, or white American cheese
-
4 to 6 soft hoagie rolls or sub rolls
-
4 to 6 slices provolone cheese for topping
-
Butter or oil for toasting rolls
Instructions
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and sliced bell peppers. Cook for 6–8 minutes until soft and slightly golden. Remove vegetables from the pan and set aside.
-
Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it apart with a spatula. Cook until fully browned and no pink remains. Drain excess grease if needed.
-
Season the beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add Worcestershire sauce and mix well. Return the cooked peppers and onions to the skillet and combine.
-
Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet and let the cheese melt, stirring gently to create a creamy filling.
-
Lightly butter the inside of each hoagie roll and toast on a skillet or under the broiler until edges are crisp.
-
Divide the cheesesteak filling among the toasted rolls. Place a slice of cheese on top of each sandwich and return to the oven or skillet briefly to melt the cheese. Serve warm.
